Whatttt??? BASS ISLAND??? Yes! The Bassnectar crew has done it again. There will be the first ever "Bass Island" on August 13th, in New York City held by Bassnectar. Bass Island will be just like a Bass Center, except...on an island! However, it won't be quite like the past two Bass Centers, as Bassnectar's shows are just going to keep getting bigger, better, and crazier. The actual event will take place on South Island Field at Governors Island, so for anyone that can make it to this event, you are in for a treat! Advance tickets are on sale right now, May 12th and I'm sure regular tickets will be on sale soon, but visit Bassnectar's website to read more about Bass Island, how to submit other artists that you would like to see there as well, and also about how Red Rocks SOLD OUT today!
Red Rocks, one of the most amazing venues in the country, is where Bassnectar (and Beat's Antique!) will be playing on June 18th as I've mentioned many times before. This 10,000 person venue sold out today, and Kevin & I will be 2 of those 10,000. Ten THOUSAND people!!! I'm not even going to say anything else about that.
As for news about Bassnectar's latest music, we do not know if it's going to be an album or an EP, but we do know that it's name is "Divergent Spectrum" and that it is coming "soon". I don't think soon will be as fast as we want it though, as the Bassnectar crew encouraged fans to "release their excitement over an extended period of time so that we don't explode." Good advice! Haha :-)
Lorin (Bassnectar) also answered a fan's question about "why he doesn't play his older material at shows?" This actually isn't true! Click here to read what Lorin answered to that question, and click the songs below to hear some of my favorite older Bassnectar tunes.

Pretty Lights, Rusko, & Identity Music Festival
Hey people! I'm so sorry I haven't talked about Pretty Lights or Rusko yet! I have lots to talk about - including an awesome festival that is coming to NC in August!
Pretty Lights on April 19th was a lot of fun! Despite the people that literally grinded on me the entire show, I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was one more thing though. It's official that the Raleigh Amphitheatre is just NOT loud enough for a concert like that. I can understand if you're there to see Jack Johnson or someone of that genre but electronic music is meant to be heard loud, and I was having conversations with my friends while we were on the front row (yeah that shouldn't be possible). I know it couldn't have been any louder though because it was as loud as Raleigh, NC allows it to be, as that city has noise ordinances and also makes artists end their shows by 11pm at that particular venue. Fortunately it got dark around 8 something since the show had to start at 6 because people were worried that it wasn't even going to be dark to see Derek's 'pretty lights'! However, those were also lacking a bit as all of his lights were mainly on screens instead of shining out into the crowd like I've seen in the past. Below is my video from this show, then a video from when I saw him at MoogFest. Compare the lighting! The last two times I saw him with his drummer Adam Deitch too, which also made the show have a little more of the bass I like to hear with the drums! I don't think any PL show will ever top the first time I saw him at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh over a year ago. The lights + sound + people were perfect! (Remember to mute my playlist on the right before you play a video).
I'm glad I finally got to talk about those two shows and this awesome festival! I'm currently avoiding studying for my very last exam of college, but hey I'll get to that soon enough. Here are some songs (old & new) that I want to share today for those of you who care! These are just some of the ones I'm jammin to this week!
Rusko Remix - "Remedy" - Little Boots
Rusko Remix - "Pro Nails" - Kid Sister

In the first video at around 40 seconds you can see a great view of the crowd, and the city of Raleigh behind them.
Now to talk about Rusko.... boy what a different experience than Pretty Lights. I saw Rusko recently at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, but seeing him as his own personal show without seeing other artists all day long makes it so much fun, not to mention he had his own sick lights that spelled out R-U-S-K-O. Rusko is seriously so fun to watch in concert. I give him mad props for having that much energy throughout his entire show, because even I stopped to catch my breath a few times, but he was literally going the whole time! Doorly opened for him, who I personally really like, but he needs to step up his game during his performance! To get more popular as a music producer, you can't just play your music in front of the crowd and expect everyone to be enthused. You have to talk to the crowd, dance with the crowd...pump your crowd up doing whatever it takes! I'm sure he'll get some tips from Rusko since he currently is touring with him, and here is one of my favorite jams by him called "Bonkers". But anyways, back to Rusko! He was great. I love all of his music, and he played a bunch of new stuff for us too. Kevin even got a autographed poster from him! Sadly it got a little crinkled throughout the show since he bought it beforehand but the crinkles were worth it. :-) Check out my video from this show at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC.

What is a Bassnectar AmBASSador you might ask?
And by the way, Kevin is now an AmBASSador too!!! He was chosen last week to be a part of this program, which I'm obviously thrilled about!
My recent Pretty Lights & Rusko experiences are coming soon!

SURPRISE! I went to BASSNECTAR at the NORVA in Norfolk, VA 4/17/11
Spontaneous? Me? Not usually...but yesterday Kevin & I definitely were. Bassnectar's Spring Tour was announced weeks ago and we had considered going to the Norfolk, VA show but figured it was too far away for a Sunday night when Kevin had class at 8am the next morning. Then after the show sold out we knew we definitely weren't going because tickets on all websites were over $100 each. Then at 3:30pm yesterday in Winston-Salem, NC (a 5 hour drive from Norfolk) Kevin decided to randomly look up tickets for Bassnectar and found two for $35...so DUH we had to go! We literally left Winston the second we got packed and made our way to Norfolk. I AM SO GLAD WE DID!!!
| Bassnectar during "Pink Elephants" |
We literally made it to the venue 15 minutes before Bassnectar came on. I was extra excited about this Bassnectar show because I knew all of the ambassadors working this specific one! (Bassnectar Ambassador's now have the option to work at any show if they want to/can.. cool right?) Kevin & I somehow got up to the front railing on the left side and any words that I use right now to describe this show will just be an understatement on how good it was. It was just like New Years Eve for me all over again. I was so close, and 100% into the concert the whole time. I never left my spot either! Tears came out when he started playing and this happened to me on New Years Eve too, so I'm not sure if it's because both times his intro included "Here We Go" or if it's just because the intro to any Bassnectar show is AWE-SOME. I seriously can't even describe the feeling but I was so happy last night and I am just so glad Kevin had the idea to go last minute because it was so much fun. I'm actually embarrassingly and extremely sore today. Yeah.. my neck & back. I guess being on the front rail allows one to jam a little harder than normal and well, I feel like I got in a car wreck! Haha! (Hope I'm recovered for Pretty Lights tomorrow!) But anyways...after this amazing concert, I stuck around the front to talk to the ambassadors more, and Lia too of course (Bassnectar's assistant). Lorin was standing on top of the speakers (or whatever those things were?) signing autographs and I was waiting patiently for my chance to get to speak to him and make sure he realized who I was...
...and he did!!! I told him I just wanted to say hello because I was one of his ambassadors and he goes, "You're "KCDAV!!!!!" (hence my twitter username) Haha, I was SO happy he knew who I was! He then proceeded to tell me that he loved the picture I tweeted of Phillip Irwin's shirt when I was at Ultra, and then he asked me if I wanted to come up on stage and be in the AmBASSador picture with him and the ones that worked that night! So of course I did, and the picture that Kevin took for me was unfortunately blurry, so I'm currently waiting for Lia to upload the ones she took that will be on Bassnectar's website. I'll add it on here as soon as she uploads it! And if you're interested, my blurry one and all the other pictures I took last night are on Facebook in my "Basscapades" album. Below are three videos I took, and then a picture of Kevin & me with the ambassadors and Lia Holland.

Added 4/23/11 - as promised, here is the picture I got to take with the AmBASSadors and Lorin after the Norfolk, VA show on April 17th![]() |

Skrillex in Charlotte, NC - Polish Ambassador in Chapel Hill, NC!
These two JUST IN! Skrillex will be playing at Amos Southend venue in Charlotte, NC with Porter Robinson and Zed. The Polish Ambassador will be playing in Chapel Hill, NC and I am unsure about the venue as I believe a fraternity called Chi Psi has paid for him to come for their last day of classes (which is a huge party day for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). I'm so bummed because I will be in Europe on July 9th (I guess I shouldn't be bummed about that!) but I will not be able to attend Skrillex in Charlotte!!! This would happen! But if you are going to be in or around Charlotte on July 9th and want to hear some crazy electronic tunes, then Amos Southend will be the place to be. Check out the facebook event for Skrillex and/or visit Skrillex's website.
You can also visit The Polish Ambassador's website where he lets people know about his new record called Future, Sex, Computers on 1320 Records. You can preview the entire album here!
If you scroll down to my older posts you will see Skrillex & Polish Ambassador videos from concerts that I went to. Hope you enjoy both of my blog posts today!
A "Thank You" from Ultra and mid-April Update
How cool is this picture that Ultra Music Festival created to thank all of it's attendees? It also announces the dates for next years festival, which will be March 23-25th (I personally think it's too early to be thinking about next year) but if I had to say right now if I would go again the answer would be yes, so maybe lots of other people out there feel the same!
Next up this week is that Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) just announced that they will be doing three nights in Colorado this September! This is great news for me since I will be living in Denver way before that! I'm going to need to broaden my blog audience to Denver, Colorado readers so they can be updated with all these new shows coming up. STS9 will be playing at the Ogden Theatre on 9/8, and then two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on 9/9 and 9/10 - so if you can't go to all three, hopefully you can make it to one!![]() |
| STS9 Pretty Lights in Raleigh is coming up fast (April 19th to be exact)! Derek and his drummer Adam (who I met in December when Adam played for Conspirator in at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh) will without a doubt be giving us an awesome show. So many more people than usual are coming out for this concert, and I hope the venue makes for a good time because the past two PL concerts I've been to have definitely been so much fun. Derek's music live is even better than listening to it at home on some speakers, so get ready if you have never seen them together!!! Two Fresh and Mindelixir will be opening for Pretty Lights so this makes the night even better! I saw Two Fresh at MoogFest, and saw Mindelixir before The Glitch Mob in Charlotte this past year, so don't think you need to get to the venue late. Both of these artists are awesome and you will want to get there when the show starts! At least that's my plan. :-) If you haven't gotten a ticket you can get one here and you should also check out Pretty Light's website for free downloads of ALL of his music! Looking For Love (But Not So Sure) is my favorite song from his last album that came out in October, check it out. See ya Tuesday! |

ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL - "Have a beer with 150,000 of your friends." March 25-27th, 2011
| Sub Focus at ULTRA Music Festival |
Yup, Ultra is the perfect name for this world renowned music festival, as it is and was the ULTIMATE electronic music experience for everyone in attendance. Ultra was not only sold out by 150,000 thousand people, but people from 70 different countries bought tickets to this event. I don't know if that number means anything to you, but compared to the numbers of other festivals this one is as big as it gets!
| Excision & Datsik |
Day 2 begins and I run into Phillip immediately as we get out of the cab! Check out his shirt. I tweeted a picture of his shirt at Bassnectar and said "your ambassadors wish you were here!" and I'm assuming after that tweet Lorin recognized that I was one of his ambassadors, and started following me on twitter. That topped off an amazing day at Ultra, ready to hear about it?

We get there and go straight to the Carl Cox stage where Steve Aoki is playing, and it was just so cool to even BE in this area because of all the decorations and lighting that was going on at this stage. Afrojack played here after Steve Aoki, and he was great! "Polkadots" by him has been stuck in my head for days because he played later on during the day at the main stage too (where the music can be heard REALLY far away) and everyone was jumping around dancing to this song. Very memorable sight to see! We also checked out Netsky at the Tower of Ultra, check out this new sick song by him here.

| Skrillex |
Next up was three in a row at one stage...Nero, then Skream & Benga, then Rusko! The only part that sucks about festivals is that you have to save energy for people that play later in the day, which means you can't jam as hard as you actually want to earlier in the day! Nero was awesome, and then Skream & Benga were sick too. (Skream & Benga are their own artist names, but they also have a group called Magnetic Man, and a guy named "Artwork" is a part of that as well). But Rusko was who I was looking forward to the most at Ultra, so being in the exact same spot for all three shows was tiresome, but totally worth it!
| Skream & Benga |
I apologize that the two videos I've posted on here so far aren't HD, but my HD camera apparently didn't have a large memory card, so I took a lot of videos on my other camera to be safe and made sure I had enough space on my better camera. The rest of my videos below are in HD.
Rusko was awesome and I can't wait to see him again - possibly on April 30th in Washington DC! He will also be at the Orange Peel in Asheville the next day, May 1st, but that is a Sunday so Kevin & I figured a Saturday would be more fun.
Anywho, we saw a lot of artists on day 2, and the rest of the good ones this day included Deadmau5, then Excision and Datsik. Just like Tiesto, the crowd for Deadmau5 was absolutely insane. I don't know exactly how many people were crammed in front of the main stage, but I'm guessing like 30,000. Kevin & I wanted to see Deadmau5 because we never had live before, but when we knew Excision and Datsik were going on in the Tower of Ultra nearby, we decided to leave and check them out. Excision was just as sick as he was the night before, and then Datsik was awesome. I heard that Datsik had one of the best sets at Ultra, but we left early to beat the crowds, which I am now regretting! My FAVORITE song right now is "Wake Up Call" by Datsik, which is also the first song that plays on my blog right now, but in case you are reading this and I have changed it, click the link to hear that song.

| Super Mash Bros |
After Super Mash Bros, we checked out Will.i.am since he was at the main stage, and he was fun to watch because of all the energy from the crowd. When there are thousands among thousands of people all together wanting to hear music, there's a pretty good chance you're going to enjoy the live music whether or not you like the person playing or not. After a little bit of Will.i.am we went back to the Tower of Ultra (we were there a lot as you can tell) to see Skrillex again. Yet again, an awesome show. The picture below is of Skrillex, and then Edit from the Glitch Mob is on the left, setting up for their show next. =)
| Edit from The Glitch Mob on left, Skrillex in the middle |
The Glitch Mob was sick, of course. They always are to me. I feel like I know these guys! I practically hung out with them after their show almost a year ago in Greensboro, NC - took pictures with them after the show like it was nothin! Then a few months later I saw them in Charlotte where it was a little harder to get access to them, but I made it happen! I got to talk to them all after the show outside the venue. At Bass Center 2, I SHOULD have gotten to talk to them since I was an ambassador! But I actually never saw them back stage? Must have been hanging out in a secret room with Lorin giving him birthday cake. So yeah, seeing them for my fourth time was awesome. Here are my two videos that I took of them below. The first one catches Edit and then Ooah freestyling. I didn't catch Boreta's part in time!

Needless to say, Kevin & I had an unbelievable time at Ultra. Thanks for reading. :-D

Bassnectar at Red Rocks, & ULTRA in 7 days..... "Get ready cause here we GOOO"
It's official! I'm going to the Bassnectar show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on June 18th. Yes. Bassnectar at one of the most famous venues in the country. Kevin and I are moving to Denver, Colorado at the end of July now, so we are going to head out there the week of June 18th to see Bassnectar and put the final touches on our job and apartment hunting before we actually make the move. I'm so excited this worked out in this way!
For those of you who don't know what Red Rocks is, you can see and read all about it here. It is such an amazing venue that I have wanted to go to for so long now and I am so excited Kevin & I chose that week to visit Denver so we can make it to the show. The Glitch Mob and Pretty Lights have also just recently scheduled shows there, as the date for Glitch Mob is July 2nd and Pretty Lights is August 12th. Pretty Lights played at Red Rocks on my birthday last year, August 7th, and I really wanted to go then but couldn't make it so I can't believe I will most likely be seeing them there a year later when I'm actually living right down the road! I also got invited to be an Ambassador again for the Red Rocks show, but since I'm going all the way out there just with Kevin I'm thinking about just sticking with him the whole night (aren't I a good girlfriend?) :-D but having the advantage over everyone else that I know the Bassnectar crew and will be "slightly VIP" as another ambassador put it. It's definitely a Bassnectar show you wouldn't want to miss if you have the chance to go to it.
And yes, I cannot believe Ultra is in 7 days. One week from tomorrow (well I guess technically today since it is 3 in the morning!) I will be in Miami, Florida JAMMING OUUUUUUTTTTTT to RUSKO, SUB FOCUS, SKRILLEX, SKREAM, BENGA, THE GLITCH MOB, PENDULUM, DEADMAU5, EXCISION, DATSIK, NERO, THE DISCO BISCUITS, KASKADE, AFROJACK, STEVE AOKI, BOYS NOIZE, STS9, DAVID GUETTA.......should I keep going?!?!?!
Goodnight!!!

-------------
Speaking of me being an Ambassador, I have a little story for you guys. I got the nicest message from someone I didn't know on Facebook today telling me that they were looking up stuff for Ultra Music Festival and stumbled across my blog somewhere on the Internet. Not only did they tell me that they are also going to Ultra and that they were at Basscenter 2, but they were very complementary of my blog (and gave props to me for being a part of the octopus and dragon shenanigans at Basscenter 2). Then tonight at the bar (yes I said bar but I'm actually sober right now) someone told me that a friend of mine always shows them my blog and that they think it is the "coolest thing ever". To those two people today, to other people that have told me this, and to people that think this as well - thank you SO much! You make my day and I can't tell you how much it means to me when someone tells me this. You are why I keep writing!-------------
Now back to some music talk! In my last blog post I told you guys I was going to the Bahamas and that I probably wouldn't engage in any musical escapades that week. Well whatdya know. I fly into Charlotte, NC and find out my younger sister can get Kevin & I in free at the Rebelution concert in town. Of course we went, and got to hang out on the tour bus too! My younger sister Jaclyn went to Lollapalooza back in August (following in my footsteps;)) and met the guys of Rebelution there, so when they came to NC they hooked her and her friends up with free tickets to the show. It was a great concert, and I really liked this song called "Lazy Afternoon". Another song that I have always really liked of Rebelution's is "Safe and Sound". Marley, the lead bass guitarist is who I should give thanks to for letting us all in free, and this picture below is my sister & me with him on their bus.![]() |

Beginning of March Update
Hey blog readers :-) I'm headed to the Bahamas tomorrow for Spring Break so I probably won't be engaging in any musical escapades this week, but I'm getting extremely excited for Ultra in 20 days! I'm also going to Pretty Lights in Raleigh on April 19th, and Starscape Music Festival on June 4th. Starscape has 12 of my favorites there in ONE day so I knew I had to go, wasn't a doubt about it in my mind from the second I saw the lineup. My favorites from this lineup include:
BASSNECTAR - LOTUS - STEVE AOKI - DOORLY - SKRILLEX - EXCISION - DATSIK - FLUX PAVILION - DOCTOR P - ZEDS DEAD - PAPER DIAMOND - TC
Pretty intense people I just listed...but hey what can I say, I'm a bass head and this music LIVE is so much better than when you listen to it on your computer, trust me. Let me give you some of my favorite songs right now from these people.
Raindrops - Basement Jaxx - Doorly remix
Last One Standing - Example - Doctor P remix
Keri Hilson ft. Wiz Khalifa - Turin Me On - Paper Diamond remix
Rude Boy - Rihanna - TC remix
Don Diablo ft. Dragonette - Animale (Datsik remix)
All The Eastern Girls - Chapel Club - Flux Pavilion remix
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Skrillex
I also just recently made another video using iMovie that is a collaboration of my videos that I took from Bassnectar on New Years Eve and Bass Center. I'm kind of bummed about the quality of some of my videos though, as lines show up throughout my videos every now and then when the lights are going nuts. When I bought my camera I was told it had the same quality as the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 4 is definitely better quality as those lines do not show up on it (AND iPhone 4 has better sound!). I'm going to have to do something about this! But for now, here's my video that I made that includes Bassnectar's song "Wildstyle."
Hopefully I'll run into some Junkanoo bands in the Bahamas! Until next time....
