8 Days Until Starscape - Free Downloads & Tix!?

Hey friends! I'm sorry that there hasn't been a blog post very recently, but that's simply because I haven't been to any concerts since Rusko! Can you believe it? Might be my longest span of going without seeing a show, haha but don't worry... Starscape Music Festival is only 8 days away and I am soooo freaking pumped for it. Just a reminder of who I'm excited about seeing there, it's literally my dream festival... Bassnectar, Lotus, Steve Aoki, Feed Me, Doorly, Skrillex, Exicision, Datsik, Borgore, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Zeds Dead, Paper Diamond, Dirtyphonics, TC, and Dieselboy... and I apologize to all of the other artists that will be there that I didn't mention - I just haven't gotten to hear their music yet, but I'm sure I'll be adding some new favorites to my list after this awesome festival. Check out the full lineup on each stage here. I'm so excited for the blog post and all my videos and pictures that will be on here after I attend Starscape!!

Anyways just thought I'd share a couple little things with you. You can download three free songs from Skrillex, Zedd, & Flinch here. Get them while you can! Bassnectar's Bass Island - August 13th - NYC

Whatttt??? BASS ISLAND??? Yes! The Bassnectar crew has done it again. There will be the first ever "Bass Island" on August 13th, in New York City held by Bassnectar. Bass Island will be just like a Bass Center, except...on an island! However, it won't be quite like the past two Bass Centers, as Bassnectar's shows are just going to keep getting bigger, better, and crazier. The actual event will take place on South Island Field at Governors Island, so for anyone that can make it to this event, you are in for a treat! Advance tickets are on sale right now, May 12th and I'm sure regular tickets will be on sale soon, but visit Bassnectar's website to read more about Bass Island, how to submit other artists that you would like to see there as well, and also about how Red Rocks SOLD OUT today!

Red Rocks, one of the most amazing venues in the country, is where Bassnectar (and Beat's Antique!) will be playing on June 18th as I've mentioned many times before. This 10,000 person venue sold out today, and Kevin & I will be 2 of those 10,000. Ten THOUSAND people!!! I'm not even going to say anything else about that.

As for news about Bassnectar's latest music, we do not know if it's going to be an album or an EP, but we do know that it's name is "Divergent Spectrum" and that it is coming "soon". I don't think soon will be as fast as we want it though, as the Bassnectar crew encouraged fans to "release their excitement over an extended period of time so that we don't explode." Good advice! Haha :-)

Lorin (Bassnectar) also answered a fan's question about "why he doesn't play his older material at shows?" This actually isn't true! Click here to read what Lorin answered to that question, and click the songs below to hear some of my favorite older Bassnectar tunes.

Pretty Lights, Rusko, & Identity Music Festival

Hey people! I'm so sorry I haven't talked about Pretty Lights or Rusko yet! I have lots to talk about - including an awesome festival that is coming to NC in August!
Pretty Lights

Derek Smith
Pretty Lights on April 19th was a lot of fun! Despite the people that literally grinded on me the entire show, I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was one more thing though. It's official that the Raleigh Amphitheatre is just NOT loud enough for a concert like that. I can understand if you're there to see Jack Johnson or someone of that genre but electronic music is meant to be heard loud, and I was having conversations with my friends while we were on the front row (yeah that shouldn't be possible). I know it couldn't have been any louder though because it was as loud as Raleigh, NC allows it to be, as that city has noise ordinances and also makes artists end their shows by 11pm at that particular venue. Fortunately it got dark around 8 something since the show had to start at 6 because people were worried that it wasn't even going to be dark to see Derek's 'pretty lights'! However, those were also lacking a bit as all of his lights were mainly on screens instead of shining out into the crowd like I've seen in the past.  Below is my video from this show, then a video from when I saw him at MoogFest. Compare the lighting! The last two times I saw him with his drummer Adam Deitch too, which also made the show have a little more of the bass I like to hear with the drums! I don't think any PL show will ever top the first time I saw him at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh over a year ago. The lights + sound + people were perfect! (Remember to mute my playlist on the right before you play a video).

In the first video at around 40 seconds you can see a great view of the crowd, and the city of Raleigh behind them.

Now to talk about Rusko.... boy what a different experience than Pretty Lights. I saw Rusko recently at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, but seeing him as his own personal show without seeing other artists all day long makes it so much fun, not to mention he had his own sick lights that spelled out R-U-S-K-O. Rusko is seriously so fun to watch in concert. I give him mad props for having that much energy throughout his entire show, because even I stopped to catch my breath a few times, but he was literally going the whole time! Doorly opened for him, who I personally really like, but he needs to step up his game during his performance! To get more popular as a music producer, you can't just play your music in front of the crowd and expect everyone to be enthused. You have to talk to the crowd, dance with the crowd...pump your crowd up doing whatever it takes! I'm sure he'll get some tips from Rusko since he currently is touring with him, and here is one of my favorite jams by him called "Bonkers". But anyways, back to Rusko! He was great. I love all of his music, and he played a bunch of new stuff for us too. Kevin even got a autographed poster from him! Sadly it got a little crinkled throughout the show since he bought it beforehand but the crinkles were worth it. :-) Check out my video from this show at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC.

Rusko
Speaking of Rusko and Pretty Lights, there is an AMAZING festival coming to Charlotte, NC on August 16th (and 19 other places in the country as well) with soooooo many good artists! This festival is called the Identity Festival, check out the line up below (more artists to come too). Identity is the first-ever touring electronic music festival!

Yeah so if you like the music I like, I'd be at this one! Here are the other cities and dates below:

I'm glad I finally got to talk about those two shows and this awesome festival! I'm currently avoiding studying for my very last exam of college, but hey I'll get to that soon enough. Here are some songs (old & new) that I want to share today for those of you who care! These are just some of the ones I'm jammin to this week!

Rusko Remix - "Remedy" - Little Boots
Rusko Remix - "Pro Nails" - Kid Sister

What is a Bassnectar AmBASSador you might ask?

And by the way, Kevin is now an AmBASSador too!!! He was chosen last week to be a part of this program, which I'm obviously thrilled about!

My recent Pretty Lights & Rusko experiences are coming soon!
