Thank you so much for your time and support! As you know by now, I no longer post on this blog about the shows I attend and the music I listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed writing every post you can find on this site, and hope they will still be entertaining for readers to come. CASPA - Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, Denver CO 3/27/12

Caspa was nuts last Tuesday at Cervantes in Denver, Colorado! Who sells out on a Tuesday night? Denver does! Especially because Caspa and this venue were cool enough to sell tickets for only 5 dollars, so who wouldn't go?
Caspa - Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom - 3/27/12
Sub.Mission Dubstep throws awesome electronic events in Denver all the time. Every week at this venue they have what's called "Electronic Tuesdays," and this specific Tuesday we were lucky enough to have Caspa as the artist! Caspa dropped some sick songs that night too. I had never seen him before so I was so excited to finally get the chance to do so. Caspa was one of the first dubstep artists I ever listened to, and I love his unique style. I caught a little bit of his set in my video below, check it out.

Next up for me Thievery Corporation this Friday in Vail, Colorado. It's a FREE show! How awesome is that? Then on April 20th I'll be hitting up Rusko at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado! It's technically not just a Rusko show either. It's called Levitate Festival and the other artists playing are DJ Shadow, Paper Diamond, and Pictureplane. Look forward to telling you guys all about them both!

SNOWBALL MUSIC FESTIVAL March 2-4th in Avon, Colorado!

Snowball Music Festival is unlike any other festival out there. You get to go see your favorite electronic artists, in the SNOW. Who doesn't love bundling up for a snow day? Well you get three days of fun at this specific festival. My best friends and I headed up to Avon, Colorado this past weekend where we froze our butts off and enjoyed every moment of it!
Major Lazer at Snowball Music Festival 3/2/12
On Friday night my favorites were Major Lazer and Rusko. Major Lazer was absolutely AWESOME. Every single one of my friends was jumping up and down during their entire set. Major Lazer is so unique and has a jamaican side to their shows. Diplo, a well known electronic music artist, is also a member of Major Lazer which I think a lot of people don't realize. It was really cool to finally get to see him in person as I've heard so many good things about his music over the last year. Check out two videos I took of them at Snowball on Day 1. (Remember to mute my music playlist).

Rusko was a blast, as always! He gives off so much energy during his sets that I swear it effects the crowd positively. I also almost didn't recognize him in the huge snow jacket he was wearing! Check out my video of him below.

On Saturday my favorites were Break Science, Ghostland Observatory, and Snoop Dogg! Snoop Dogg was so much fun. I didn't think I knew that many Snoop Dogg songs until his show started and I knew every single one. Everybody was dancing and singing during his whole set... and also cracking up at the adorable old man dancing on stage that you can see in the beginning of my video! Haha, check it out.

On Sunday, my favorites were Minnesota and obviously... Bassnectar!!! I missed Beats Antique and The Motet for Bassnectar because I was already camped out at the main stage about 3 hours early. Because of this, I got to check out Leftover Salmon, the "secret guest" of the weekend, and they were pretty fun and funky. Right before Bassnectar was supposed to be Afroman, which was a complete disaster. He was extremely late and Snowball had to get other people to fill in for him. He claimed his van broke down but at least the two songs he did get on stage and sing were decent. We got to see "C-1" and "C-Way" rap and then some kind of high school band came on stage with their drumline and that was actually pretty entertaining, but everyone was just dying for Bassnectar to come on anyways. As soon as I got to the main stage I ran into a bunch of Bassnectar family (BNF as we call it) and one of the guys picked me to make the famous "Bass Front Property" sign ...which I drew with joy!

Me =)
Bassnectar at Snowball Music Festival 2/4/12
Bassnectar's set was magical! He played so much new music and I was so happy to be there in that moment. As my blog readers know, I'm a huge Bassnectar fan, and believe his music is the best of it's kind. I took two videos during his set that you can watch below. I am so excited for his new album "VaVa Voom" to come out in the next couple of months!

This music festival was so much fun and I highly recommend it to people in the future. There really is nothing like the experience you have at this festival. There is just something about being bundled up in layers upon layers of clothes and being in 10-30 degree weather that just makes the experience weird and different yet fantastic and so much fun!

Thanks so much for reading! Talk to you all soon.

STEVE AOKI, DATSIK & ALVIN RISK at The Fillmore, Denver CO 1/26/12

Last Thursday, Kevin and I went to see Steve Aoki and Datsik on their "Deadmeat Tour." I was so happy to get to catch a show from this tour! As soon as I saw a poster promoting this show back in November I knew we had to go just because these two artists together seemed too good to miss out on. I had heard great things about Alvin Risk before the show as well (an opener at the show) and he was awesome! He had a very interesting style that I really enjoyed and I'm looking forward to seeing him again in the future.

Datsik - The Fillmore, Denver CO 1/26/12
I'll have to admit this wasn't my favorite set from Datsik, but that was probably because I've gotten so lucky in the past with him playing all of my favorites when I've seen him. He also had a bit of light trouble and had to yell at the lights guy during his set because he apparently couldn't see any of his controllers due to the green light that was beaming down on him. Datsik is one of my favorite dubstep artists but I wish he would upgrade his lights! He's got a "Datsik" light logo that he displays in front of him at shows (as shown above), but he needs something else to add to his concert experience. I'm hoping he's in the process of saving up for something because I know how expensive that stuff is. Let's hope for something from him soon because he's too good not to have something sick!

Steve Aoki - The Fillmore, Denver CO 1/26/12
Steve Aoki's set was craaaazy. But what's new? I have seen Steve Aoki before at Ultra and Starscape music festivals, but not in it's entirety. I have never been there specificly for him and this time I'm glad I was. He is so much fun! He stands up on his own light stage probably 20 times throughout his set, pops champagne, pies people in the face, blasts confetti, throws out innertubes for people to crowd surf on.. sometimes crowd surfs himself/stage dives.. he's fun. His style of music is also not what I usually go to see in concert, but he put a great set together and I really enjoyed it. He also just remixed one of Bassnectar's songs: Red Step (Steve Aoki Remix). Check out my video from the show below. (Mute my music playlist first!)

Yep, I caught him poppin' champagne in the beginning of this one - and spraying it all over the crowd I might add! You can also hear "Warp" starting around 2 minutes in this video. I love that song! And aren't his lights cool? I love the "AOKI" letter lights. Kind of like Rusko's letter lights! The show was lots of fun. I can't believe they are playing in venues this big on this tour, yet also playing in tiny venues in other states! For example, they are playing at The Greene Street Club in Greensboro, NC. This club actually can hold a good amount of people, it just blows my mind they are playing there because every time I've been to a show there it's been such a small crowd! If you are one of my NC readers, GO TO THIS SHOW! It's on February 13th and you can buy tickets right HERE.

Steve Aoki - The Fillmore, Denver CO 1/26/12
Love and Light tomorrow night at Larimer Lounge with Project Aspect!

See yaaaz.

BIG GIGANTIC at The Ogden Theatre 1/21/12

Big Gigantic Colorado Winter Tour 2012 Poster
Two years ago I saw Big Gigantic in a venue with about 90 people. This time there were hundreds and hundreds of people! A big change, but such a great change it was! They played four nights in Colorado last week starting in Aspen, then in Ft. Collins and Boulder before they got to my city, Denver. Big Gigantic is such a cool music group.  Their group consist of two guys - one who plays the saxophone and works the computer while the other plays the drums. The saxophone gives them such a unique and fun style! Who doesn't love some saxophone? This was such a fun show and they had the crowd going nuts from the very beginning. Sometimes artists will have a slow start up but seriously the crowd was jumping around for the first song like they had been doing it all night! (The opening acts were great I must add, but I'm sure Big G is why they were pumped up). Big Gigantic's style is fresh and fantastic! You should definitely check these guys out if you haven't already. Below is a video Kevin took at the show of them playing their remix of "Black & Yellow." (Remember to mute my music playlist).

These guys also just released a new album on January 11 called "Nocturnal." I'm still getting acquainted with most of the songs, but some of my older favorites from Big G include, "Light of Day", "High Life", and "Wide Awake". And by the way, I have to comment on their new(?) light set up that you can see in the picture below. I loved the "pod"-looking light set ups they had that displayed amazing visuals throughout the show. Haven't seen any like this yet!

Big Gigantic - Ogden Theatre - 1/21/12
Tonight is THE DEADMEAT TOUR with Steve Aoki, Datsik, and Alvin Risk!!! So much music comes to Denver, I love this city!!!

Until next time...

SOUND TRIBE SECTOR 9 (STS9) - The Fillmore - Denver, CO 1/13-1/14 2012

STS9 - The Fillmore - Denver CO 1/13/12
I have SO much respect for STS9! I've known about them for a good while now, but really haven't been that into them until this past summer. I have many friends that are obsessed with this group, and haven't really understood why until I saw them at Red Rocks this past September. Those shows were amazing, just as these two shows this past weekend were. Except if I had to pick which set of shows were better, I'd pick the shows this weekend. Venues can really make or break the show that the artist puts on, and The Fillmore this past weekend was and is definitely a wonderful venue to see artists play live. It is a big indoor venue, and has many different viewing levels for the audience. The first time I ever saw STS9 was an outside venue that had sound restrictions (so it was NOT loud enough) and the crowd was too small for how big the venue was. Needless to say it just was not the greatest situation to get into a band for the first time. However if it was anyone's first time seeing them this weekend, I bet they'll tell you they had the time of their life. They always play really well put together sets, and you can download any specific show's set online. (Not many artists do this!)

STS9 - The Fillmore - Denver, CO 1/14/12

I am still learning so much of Sound Tribe's music, and the more I listen the more I love! They are so unique in their style, as they blend all kinds of genres of music together while adding intense bass with striking electronic sounds. Two of my favorite songs of theirs are "Golden Gate" and "The Rabble". I also love how they have a lot of piano in their songs! Check out my video from this weekend's show below of them playing their song, "Breathe In". It has really great visuals too! (Remember to mute my playlist).

I also enjoyed all of the friends I saw this weekend at these shows too. Including my girl Shannon who asked if this picture below was going to be on my blog. So thanks for asking Shannon, because you reminded me that I hadn't uploaded pictures of friends and myself on here in a while. So here we are at Sound Tribe!

Shannon, me, & Anna at STS9
STS9 really loves Colorado. They have played here numerous times over the last year, and I know they'll be back again soon in 2012. Their current tour is called "The Great Cycle Spectacles" and they claim it is unlike any show they've ever put on before. The tour is celebrating the end and the beginning of the Mayan calendar cycle, and the performance they put on for this is one of a kind. They are playing next in Chicago at the Congress Theatre on January 20th and 21st. If you're in the area, you definitely should go! I have a lot of friends headed to that show as well. I can't wait to hear what they think about it.

STS9 - The Fillmore - Denver, CO 1/14/12
I'm headed to Big Gigantic this weekend and haven't seen them since I lived in Raleigh sometime last year so I'm super excited because they just had a new album come out! It came out January 11th and is called Nocturnal, definitely should check it out! :-D

PRETTY LIGHTS on NEW YEARS EVE - 1st Bank Center in Colorado!

Pretty Lights NYE - 1st Bank Center - Broomfield, CO
I've seen Pretty Lights 8 times now and this time was by far my favorite! Derek really put on a great show this New Years Eve and I'm so glad he is was in Colorado for my friends and me to see him. Everyone knows Pretty Lights has awesome lights.. hence the name - but he also has high quality lasers that really make the visual experience spectacular. I experienced this show from the very back of the venue and it was really awesome to get to see the lights from this view since I'm usually up pretty close at shows. I got a really good video of his visuals below, check it out (and remember to mute my music playlist).

Derek dropped some sick new songs on New Years too. I'm talkin' songs with BASS! I can't wait for him to release all of his new music he's been saving for his live shows. The songs he played on this night all flowed so perfectly too. He played a lot of "oldies but goodies" and gave us a good amount of new stuff. And of course he played "I Know The Truth" - one of his newest songs that everyone seems to go crazy for at his shows! He also played "Pretty Lights vs Radiohead vs Nirvana vs NIN" which I really like even more now. Check out my other video of right before the midnight countdown when he played "The Final Countdown." Gets crazyyy!

After midnight Derek played, "After Midnight"!!! I was SO excited! I've always wanted to hear this song live and obviously New Years Eve was a great time for him to play it (after creating it for his New Years Eve show in 2010). All sorts of balloons and confetti dropped from the ceiling at 12 and everyone was going crazy. I also saw that Derek was wearing a GoPro camera on his head during the show and "cheers'ing" with champagne at midnight!!! How cool!

Derek from Pretty Lights - Celebrating New Years Eve!
Towards the end of the show when Derek was telling everybody about how much he loves Colorado (where he's from) he threw this visual up on his screens. His normal city lights with Colorado mountains in the background! The crowd definitely loved this... not to mention he was playing a new sick song when this happened.

Pretty Lights - Colorado mountains!
I caught Zedd before Pretty Lights and he was definitely getting the crowd pumped for the night! He played some intense dubstep songs that everyone seemed to enjoy. Here's a picture I took of the crowd while he was playing (behind the stage!)
ZEDD before Pretty Lights on New Years Eve
This really was such a great concert/fun night and I'm really looking forward to the music Derek creates in the future!

I'm headed to see my friend Raul [BASS.THOVEN] this weekend & then STS9 the weekend after next! Check back for a post each week because there are really sick shows in my area every weekend this month (when aren't there! Ha). And if you haven't done so already, "LIKE" my blog's facebook page! :-)

BEATS ANTIQUE at The Fillmore - Denver, CO 12/3/11

Beats Antique 12/3/11
What an awesome and interesting night this was. Beats Antique is such a cool music group. They are considered to be in the electronic music genre because of the electronic sounds/bass they incorporate into their music, but they also all play many different instruments and have people come on stage to add to the performance as well. For those who aren't familiar with Beats Antique at all, here is a little blurb from their website:

"Growing like wildfire under the canopy of live electonica and world roots music comes a masterful merge of modern technology, live instrumentation and seductive performance, built of brass bands and glitch, string quartets and dubstep: the musical trio Beats Antique."

Opening for Beats Antique on this night was Tipper and Alex Grey and Allyson Grey live painting for the audience. This was such an awesome thing to see because his painting are like nothing I've ever seen. Alex Grey is known worldwide for his paintings and his artwork can be spotted all around the city of Denver. (I actually bought a Calendar of his paintings today!) Alex Grey's paintings "takes the viewer on both a graphic and visionary journey through the physical, metaphysical and spiritual anatomy of the self. Grey's portrayals of human beings blend scientific exactitude with depictions of universal life energy, enabling us to redefine both our world and ourselves." To learn more about his work, visit his website. Here's a picture I took of one of his paintings on the large screen at the concert.

Alex Grey & Allyson Grey live painting at The Fillmore before Beats Antique 12/3/11
Tipper was an awesome act before Beats Antique as well. I had heard great things about him before the show and he was really good and went well with the Beats Antique vibe everyone had that night. If you visit his website, you can listen to all of his music for free just by clicking on an album and then the song name. Beats Antique put on an awesome show as usual - and I was so excited for them to be the headliner of the show for once so my focus could be 100% on them. They played a sick Bassnectar remix of his song "Voo Doo." Here's a video I found on YouTube for that... and may I warn you to only listen and not watch. This video might make you dizzy haha! For a more steady video, you can watch one I took from the show below. It's not of the Bassnectar remix though, but it's still cool to watch!

I'm headed to see ill.Gates this weekend! I have never seen him before and am really excited about it. I'm sure I'll be telling you how ILL it was next week ;-)

"Nectarine Nation" Mix by DroppinFresh [Brannan Doyle]

Hey everybody! My friend Brannan Doyle sent me this sick Bassnectar inspired mix the other day and I wanted to share it with all of my readers! Brannan told me that the idea behind this mix was to work in a bunch of random tracks that Bassnectar has been playing lately at his shows, but that aren't his own catalog releases. If you have been to a Bassnectar show recently, you'll definitely recognize these songs. Check out the mix below, and make sure you got a good 45 minutes to listen to the whole thing. Cause it's sickkk! (Remember to mute my music playlist on the right).

  NectarineNation by DroppinFresh

If you liked what you heard you can check out Brannan's Soundcloud page where he's got some more fun mixes he put together. You can also download the mix above right from his page too! This mix made me so excited for the next time I get to see Bassnectar because Lorin keeps it so fresh and original by playing all of his own songs, but then he adds in the sickest, newest songs that nobody really has heard yet. Unfortunately I won't be making it to his show on New Years Eve, but I'll be seeing him next at Snowball Music Festival in March. I CANNOT WAIT.

Talk to you soon!
